Featuring songs by Daughter, The Submarines, French Kicks, OneRepublic, Mates Of States, Of Monsters and Men, Vampire Weekend, The Staves, The Shins, Bronze Radio Return, The Lighthouse and The Whale, Lady Of The Sunshine, and The Honey Trees!
When I'm alone, I like to pretend myself in a movie, the kind of movie I don't quite understand. Filled with enchanting journeys, from wandering in the city at night, an evening road trip beneath the sun rays, waking up in a tent by the beach, feeding myself with a trip at a museum, and seeking beautiful places in beautiful countries.

Don't you all need a haunting dreamy vibe songs to day dream or simply makes you enjoy life even more? These girls all have one thing in common, their voices are naturally soothing, haunting, and dreamy all comes in one package. I couldn't stop singing along and making my very own music video in my head. Just in time for the spookiest time of the year. These are my top four singers with beautiful haunting voices.
Emily Reo
I found out about her when I was lurking around 8tracks with "haunted" on it tag. I'm in love. Emily-Reo writes her own dreamy pop songs, and she delivered them with her beautiful mellow, sauntering style. She recently released her new rather lovely debut record, Olive Juice, and it is available at Bandcamp, and it’s the perfect soundtrack for staring out a window and daydreaming. A while ago, Emily Reo did a really simply beautiful job covering "Birds of Paradise" by the Pretenders', i just love how she delivered the song with her own version, which is dreamy and haunting, all i can say is wow.
Birdy
This 17 year old singer was first well known for her cover of "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver, and is well covered with her beautiful haunting soothing voice. Her first album self titled "Birdy" was an album full of her favorites indie songs that she covers with her own version. Even though the sentence "nothing beats the original" but her covers was so beautifully made and her version of "Young Blood" by The Naked and Famous, was amazingly done. The original was one of my favorites upbeat indie song, but Birdy version makes you want to dwell yourself into dreams. Another favorite from Birdy would be "1901" and "People Help the People" and "Shelter"
She is now back with her new album "Fire Within" and she did write her own songs this time. Her first single "Wings" was soothing. Sticking with the big, haunting vocals, Wings is a folky track with an indie edge and it seems fair to say that once you start, you just can't stop listening. The video is pretty edgy too and going for a Gatsby-gone-wrong sort of feel, it matches the ethereal vibe that makes us wish we were prancing about the countryside in some sort of lacy veil.
Lorde
17 year old goddess, Lorde, is a one-woman music team. And is booming all over the world with her hit single "Royals" at this point, i'm sick with Royals playing over and over again on the radio, when there are still a lot of masterpieces from Lorde "Pure" Album. A mix of hip-hop, minimalist, and haunting voice are Lorde. She just released an EP "The Love Club", and i couldn't stop listening to "Team" "Biting Down" "Bravado" "Tennis Court" "One Million dollar baby", and her cover of "Swingin' Party" which was originally sung by The Replacements, she's perfect.
Chrysta Bell
This singer which has continued to haunt me this year, modern American vamp Chrysta Bell, slightly spooky but utterly memorable. As good as the music was - her self- penned single Real Love. It was almost as if Chrysta Bell was operating in the centre of a 3D film noir, trapped in her own lost highway. With a haunting voice, flick knife eyes and perfect poise.
- Trista AnjaniWe're already at the last quarter of the year and it’s starting to get really chilly here. But probably this is because I’m sitting in a fully air-conditioned room during a huge rain, plus the fact that Indonesia’s climate is almost entirely tropical makes it impossible for winter to ever happen here. Anyways! Other parts of the world seem to be going through fall, so I would love to bring summer back to you guys. No, I’m not talking about time travel or resetting the world’s climate and what not. I’m talking about How Sad, the synth pop indie band from Montreal. How Sad started out recording in their very own bedrooms but quickly morphed into a band playing hook-laden synth pop tailored towards live performance (as written in their Facebook Page). When I first heard their single, Indian Summer, I felt as if I was back on a beach, sipping ice cold strawberry lemonade, whisking all my troubles away while drowning in a ray of sunshine. According to TheWildHoneyPie.com, “Indian Summer” is still whimsical in its reflectiveness, going back and forth between falsetto, anthem-like chanting, and the lower, main melody of singer Harris Gilbertshper. Its drums are heavy but not oppressive, maintaining the lightheartedness that the band portrays so well. The band has just finished touring New York City playing CMJ and has been so kind in answering the questions we've emailed them. So without further ado, here is Felice Magazine’s interview with How Sad’s vocalist Harris Gilbertshper! 1. Tell us anything about you guys! 3/4 of us are originally from Vermont but we all live in Montreal now 2. How did you come up with the name How Sad? It was a name that sort of spoke to us while trying to tackle some of the more upbeat sounds we create mixed with the darker images in the lyrics. It's sort of funny and serious at the same time. 3. How much time did you guys spend working on your EP? It was a process mostly done in my bedroom that kind of came to form the EP. The original songs were mostly recorded in a day or two each and then we worked on them for a couple months in various settings. 4. If you could work with any musician who would it be? Right now I really love Dave Siteks (TV on the Radio) production work, so it would be amazing to work with him one day! 5. Do you guys have a tight practice schedule? Right now we've been practicing and playing a lot, so as much as we can while still working jobs and paying rent. 6. What's the greatest thing that has happened so far to How Sad? Opening for Portugal. The Man at Pop Montreal was such an amazing experience, definitely at the top of the list! 7. Tell us your favourite song to work out to. We would love to feature your pick in our upcoming workout playlist! Iggy Azalea - Work 8. What does music mean to you guys? A reason to wake up in the morning. Pretty much everything. 9. Who's your musical influence? Too many to name really, heavily influenced by old Bowie and T. Rex but also newer artists like Twin Shadow and tons of Montreal artists as well - Land of Talk, Sunset Rubdown, Think About Life. 10. If you could play a gig anywhere in the world where would it be? Somewhere beautiful where we've never been before. 11. Would you stick to one genre? Hopefully not, we'll see! 12. What's the inspiration behind the song, Indian Summer? It was a song written about trying to find a light at the end of the tunnel even though you don't actually believe you're going to. Struggling to make sense of a bad situation by masking all your current emotions with ones that you might have once had. It is cheery sounding, so I don't mean to rain on that parade because hopefully everyone can take their own meaning from it, but it was written from a place of confusion and sadness. 13. What's the best thing about being in a band? Playing music in front of people who enjoy it. The energy from a crowd. Seeing new places and hearing new music and meeting new people. Last but not least, don't forget to take a piece of summer with you by clicking on the picture below! - Nabilla Utami
Halloween is right around the corner and it's that time of the year again! Brooms, sticks, black cats, potions, crooked green nose, and screeching laughter are haunting near you. Oh no, it must be the Season of the Witch. Modern witches are taking over the witchcraft world now, and I want you, my readers, to be a part of the witchcraft world. But remember, don't tell a soul you're a witch, once you betray the rule, well, you know the risk, burn baby burn.
Featuring songs by Kate Bush, Lauren O' Connell, Murray Gold, Lorde, The Neighbourhood, Emily Browning, Donovan, Lana Del Rey, Marike Jagger, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Mirah! There will be songs that gives you the creeps but there will also be songs with funky tones complete with unique haunting voices! Happy early Halloween and Happy haunting my darling readers. - Trista Anjani“I see my music being more experimental in the next 10 years… Music should be free-flowing and expressive,” says Marcel Everett, or better known as XXYYXX XXYYXX is 17-year-old Marcel Everett (he turns 18 this Halloween!), who described his music as “doing drugs on a freeway…underwater” because I don’t even think you can put a label on it. You can’t even classify his music into a single genre because his music is a mix of R&B, electronic, hip-hop, lo-fi, post-dubstep and probably ghostly elements? Because every time I listen to his songs it gives me a tingling feeling all the way down my spine. Maybe it has got to do with the ghost-like vocals he puts into his songs, or his insanely sick beats. His music is perfect for when you want to escape to an alternate dimension, because there’s not much lyrics on his songs so it kinda lets your mind wander a bit. Although he has a lot of different elements going around, everything blends perfectly thus making it very enjoyable. Not to be cheesy but his music really is out of this world. Another thing, XXYYXX is going to be performing at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2014 in Singapore along with James Blake (who Marcel stated is one of his influences), Chvrches, HAIM, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and so much more! - Trista AnjaniWho wants to go to a free music festival featuring Sky Ferreira, Vampire Weekend, Chvrches, Robin Thicke, and MGMT? Well I do!! And yes, you can stop pinching yourself cause this is not a dream. The Virgin Mobile Free Fest will take place September 21 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. (I hate myself too for living so far away) Gates will open at 11AM, while the show ends at 10PM. This festival focuses on helping out youth homelessness, and from the donations collected during the 2011 & 2012 festival they have managed to build the Virgin Mobile RE*Generation House, a transitional living facility for homeless youth in Washington, D.C. Presale tickets are available starting August 8 and general admissions ticket are on “sale” from the 9th of August. Be sure to read all about this amazing festival right here and if you want to see more pictures just go on to Instagram with the #freefest hashtag. - Nabilla UtamiI was first introduced to this girlband by my cousin, for he thought I looked like Alana Haim (which I now know for sure that I totally don't) and I've been listening to their songs non-stop ever since. They're going to release their new album 'Days Are Gone' on September 30th. You can pre-order their album here. After returning from their 2-week tour in Europe, White Shoes & The Couples Company released their European Tour Journal at GoetheHaus in Menteng, Central Jakarta. They preformed live for 90 minutes in front of a crowd of around 400 people. Halfway throughout the show, they showed us a video journal of their trip to Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Berlin. It was very entertaining to witness their trip in Europe, especially because we were probably the first ones to see the video, but other than that it is always exciting to get a sneak peek inside the life of a musician. It has always been a habit of White Shoes & The Couples Company to release a journal after returning home from a tour. This 40-paged journal (Below) consists of writings and photos taken by members of the band. It's only Rp50.000,00 but unfortunately there's only 500 copies available, so if any of you guys are interested, go ahead and check out their website here for details regarding the purchase. To be honest, this is my first time seeing them play live and I was absolutely mesmerized by their stage presence and charming charisma. They crack jokes in between songs and made conversation with the audience which to me was really great. It made everyone in the room feel welcomed. The live performance of the songs, raging from something that smells like disco to melancholic ballads, was just as amazing as the studio versions. Oh, and they were all wearing white shoes! Here are the pictures I was able to take. Enjoy! - Nabilla Utami
