“I see my music being more experimental in the next 10 years… Music should be free-flowing and expressive,” says Marcel Everett, or better known as XXYYXX XXYYXX is 17-year-old Marcel Everett (he turns 18 this Halloween!), who described his music as “doing drugs on a freeway…underwater” because I don’t even think you can put a label on it. You can’t even classify his music into a single genre because his music is a mix of R&B, electronic, hip-hop, lo-fi, post-dubstep and probably ghostly elements? Because every time I listen to his songs it gives me a tingling feeling all the way down my spine. Maybe it has got to do with the ghost-like vocals he puts into his songs, or his insanely sick beats. His music is perfect for when you want to escape to an alternate dimension, because there’s not much lyrics on his songs so it kinda lets your mind wander a bit. Although he has a lot of different elements going around, everything blends perfectly thus making it very enjoyable. Not to be cheesy but his music really is out of this world. Another thing, XXYYXX is going to be performing at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2014 in Singapore along with James Blake (who Marcel stated is one of his influences), Chvrches, HAIM, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and so much more!
